Stardew Valley Multiplayer: Player Limits, Platforms & How to Join

Stardew Valley supports co-op — up to 8 players share one farm on platforms that allow it, each in their own cabin. The host owns the save file and the world state; everyone else is a guest farmer.

How many players can play together?

The cap is 8 — but it depends on the platform:

Platform Max players Notes
PC (Steam/GOG) 8 LAN or internet, invite code or IP
PlayStation 4/5 4 Online via PS+
Xbox 4 Online via Game Pass
Nintendo Switch 4 Online via NSO
Switch 2 8 Raised to PC parity on the newer hardware
iOS / Android experimental LAN-only, hidden behind a debug flag

How do you join a friend’s farm?

On PC the host starts a co-op save, then shares either the invite code (Steam) or their IP. Guests join via the in-game co-op menu. Consoles follow the same pattern but lock you to the platform’s online service — a PS5 player can’t join a Switch game, and there’s no cross-play.

Cabins are the multiplayer housing system: the host builds a cabin on the farm for each guest, or uses one of the pre-built cabin layouts on a new farm. Each player gets their own inventory, skills, and money pool by default.

What’s shared and what’s separate?

Shared: the farm layout, buildings, the community center progress, day/night cycle — and money, which is shared by default (the host can pick separate wallets when creating the farm).

Separate: each player’s skills, inventory, and villager relationships stay per-player.

What about mobile?

Android and iOS have a hidden experimental multiplayer — LAN only, unlocked via a debug sequence in the settings menu. It’s not the full co-op experience and it’s not guaranteed stable.

A cabin interior — in co-op each player gets their own cabin on the host’s farm

Co-op farms progress the same as solo ones — Community Center bundles are shared, villager hearts are per-player, and each farmer levels their own professions.

Frequently asked questions

Is there cross-play? No — PC can’t play with console, and consoles can’t cross between platforms. Multiplayer is platform-isolated.

Does everyone need to be online at the same time? Yes — the host runs the session; if they log off the farm stops existing for guests.

Can you marry an NPC in multiplayer? Each player can romance and marry NPCs independently — or each other, which unlocks the wedding ring.

Is mobile multiplayer worth it? Only for couch co-op on the same Wi-Fi — it’s LAN-only and flagged experimental.
