Joja Route in Stardew Valley: Cost, Development Form & Differences
The Joja Community Development path — the 5,000g membership, the 135,000g total, and how it differs from Community Center bundles.
Joja is the “pay cash, skip the scavenger hunt” route — instead of donating items to the Community Center, you buy a Joja membership and pay for each town repair outright. It costs more, it finishes faster, and it changes a few story beats permanently.
What does the Joja membership cost?
5,000g one-time, paid at Joja-Mart. Morris signs you up and the Community Center building is demolished into a Joja Warehouse — locked in, no going back. From then on, repairs are bought as “community development projects” instead of item bundles.
What does the full Joja route cost?
After the 5,000g membership, each development has its own price tag:
| Development | Price |
|---|---|
| Bus repair | 40,000g |
| Quarry bridge | 25,000g |
| Panning boulder removal | 20,000g |
| Minecart repair | 15,000g |
| Greenhouse | 35,000g |
| Development subtotal | 135,000g |
| + membership | 140,000g |
Compare that to the Community Center, where the only cash spend is the Vault’s 42,500g — but where you have to actually find every item. The Joja route’s developments run 92,500g more than the Vault’s ask (140,000g all-in with membership vs. 42,500g), and it buys back your time.
What’s actually different?
- Item bundles: skipped entirely — no hunting Summer Squash or Rabbit’s Foot
- Building: Community Center interior is gone; the warehouse keeps the same exterior silhouette
- Rewards: same repairs, same unlocks — bus, greenhouse, panning, minecarts, quarry
- Story: Shane stays employed (good for his arc), the Junimo storyline doesn’t exist
- Morality: the game quietly marks you as the reason Joja runs the town
Some players take Joja on challenge runs for speed; most take bundles on first saves for the item-collection texture. Neither locks you out of marriage or post-game content.
Can you buy the projects in any order?
Yes — pay-as-you-go, no fixed sequence. Most players front-load the bus (desert access unlocks Starfruit and Skull Cavern) and grab the greenhouse when they can.
Frequently asked questions
Is Joja worth it? If you want the infrastructure fast and don’t care about the item-collection half of the game, yes. If you want the “restore the town” experience, no — do bundles.
Does Joja cost more? Yes — 135,000g in developments vs. the Vault’s 42,500g, a 92,500g premium before the 5,000g membership.
Can you switch to Community Center after buying Joja? No — membership is the point of no return.
